I'm sure the decisions for those vehicles were aerodynamics-based more than anything else. the charger doesn't seem quite as aerodynamic as the avenger, same case as the impala/montecarlo as well.

they gotta compete with the camry somehow, after all (with such a rounded front end, and a low profile "Headlight ridge", the camry seems like a much more aerodynamic vehicle than the charger is... plus the impala seems fairly rounded off now, much like the taurus. There was absolutely no reason as far as I'm concerned to switch from the taurus though. Probably just a marketing scheme to get the fusion more well-known. unless the changes happened due to regulations not being met like dimensions or something
