You could try what thehsbharadwaj and CG_Ghost said, but here are a couple other things you could do.
1. If you want to mirror your geometry, then you could go into the tool settings for the move tool and turn on reflection (see attachment). Now when you move stuff on one side, the other side will do the same. The downside to this way is that snapping will not reflect onto the other side. Also, sometimes reflection doesn't work
2. Model one side, then when you want to see what it looks like, delete the faces on the other side of the object, go to object mode and mirror over again.
