Please, edit your post to get back to a more standard font. This one is really too narrowed.
About modeling methods, there is several for poly modeling (start from a plane or a box, do the whole body at first or do part by part, ...) You can also use NURBS instead of poly.
There is no definitive better way. You just have to try as many methods as possible and keep the most practical to you.
As a rule of thumb, I would say that best models I've seen have been done with NURBS. I looking forward for enhancements in my software (Blender) to give them a try.
