well yea, different progs/renderers have their advantages and some are quicker. But what they use to render are the same, CPU, MEM and CPUCPUCPUCPU lol...

wow. I dunno if it's just the fact I do mostly low poly stuff, but I can't even recall any renders of mine that have taken over 10 minutes, and that was with a fairly filled out city environment, and about 5 or 6 vehicles on screen at once, and modeled out distance fog. That was with my old demo reel. Now that I've gotten better techniques, and my stuff is more optimized. I haven't had a render that's taken over 4 minutes, and that's because of some awful and stupid architecture of something I needed to optimize very badly. My average render times are just 40 seconds to 1.5 minutes. I think I'd go crazy trying to render a scene that takes an hour per frame

How many faces do you have for your scene?
My unfinished Murcielago takes about 30mins and I have 153,000 faces just for one unfished car

Material Render stats for me

mines are about 1-2 million poly per scene/render with GI, HDRI Reflections, high subdivision materials, Medium Quality GI Calculations, and I get about 1hour35mins for a render (cpu is a 1.6 overclocked to 2.0ghz P4 Willamette, 1gig Ram) Render size is 1024x768
