Little (?) problem with 3dsmax..

Not even shore if I posted this at the right place, but I kinda need some help. I just got 3ds max 7 and playing with it a little just to learn some basics. And there's one small thing that makes my life bittery at the moment. The point is I lost that xyz pointer or whatever its's called (you know those 3 red, blue, yellow arrows assigned to selected vertex edge or sth that allows you to move it in certain axes (an that axes only) direction / sorry for this silly description, I'm not very familiar with english..) So now whenever I want to move sth it moves in all directions and it's impossible to keep accuracy. Is there maybe a chance to get/activate this thing back?

I have had this problem before. I think you scaled your axis way down so you cant see them. I would tell you how to scale them back up but its been so long that i dont remember. I thought it was ctrl and + but that didnt work. So what i would do is reinstall 3d max. And get max8 while your at it.

well, thanks for your effort but it didn't work. Anyway, I reinstalled it and it's fine now. Yet I only have to learn how to model sth 'Bout that max8, well if you have some spare money to borrow.. I barely managed to get this one..
