Selection

I have a little problem, the first picture show what the model is like now



These too pics shows what action i wanna do, pay no attention too directions and instructions on the pics....



too



Basically: I wanna make the red selection area smaller without the object being altered, the alteration i will make after the selection is done :? .. could anyone tell me how? Thnx in advance great site

...but arent the two instruction pictures you posted showing you how to do it?

You can try inset for editable poly mode, that would shrink it and still keep the proper shape. Or bevel but with no extrude.

Lol @ The IC yes i would think so but they dont haha, i tried several of the operations like the instructions say but im doing this 10 spoker outta a 5 spoke tutorial i saw , i dont know why but the area selection "action" i take with this rim as i do with the 5 spoke changes the model, but it doesnt if im working on a 5 spoke , too be honest im really condused

lol...interesting...ok, try what prykie said, right click your object and go convert to editable poly and try the Inset tool it has

hmm..sry started 3d max designing only a day ago hahah, how do i find the inset tool? i know how too convert and edit poly but not sure where too find that tool :? Btw. Turbosmooth or meshsmooth, whats best for the memory, ive run outta memory a few times now. got a 1024 mb pc 3800 i think and the scene isnt that advance yet

the inset tool will just be a button in the menu on the right

turbosmooth is the one that you should use, meshsmooth is just the old one that they decided to leave in for some strange reason

well it smooths it in a different way so people might still use that

hmmm weird cause its giving me real trouble, do i need some kinda supercomputer too do this? ill have a render finished any moment of how far ive gotten , and i can DRAW on the objects that make my 3ds close down after a while, but i think i put "literation" ( is that the word?) at 7 on a big object when i see that maybe 2 or 3 is enough, is this whats causing it?
