Yeah i too highly doubt it is graphic card related all gf cards do is show you what what you looking at they dont the ability to change max files only the cpu does all that. But im guessing the file is coruppted and the gf card wont work but it is worth a try. If you realy dont want to start again go into the autobak folder in max and see if the auto backup files are still there you may be able to recover a lot of wrok it mayy even have saved right before it happened hopefully.

I have had the same problem using Brazil Render, however it was ok using 3DS Max render engine.
