Gauges Question

When you make gauges, are the numbers and letters mapped? or do you actually make them? Becuase I want them to glow and everything, so does that work with mapping?

thanks!

Well, some people model them, but if it were me, I'd texture them on because it would save on render time. Depends on how detailed you wanna get.

if you want the numbers to glow then I would suggest the following:

- create the dials in photoshop.
- then have to copies, one would be the original and the other would be the alpha.
- Then in 3d max create a raytrace plane and map the plane with the dials image giving the effect that the numbers are see through.
-finally create a a plane and give it the glow effect behind the dials.

Inthe ebnd you should get the affect your looking for to have the dials glow.

Hope you understand where I'm coming from.
