Question VRay Car Paint & Chrome

Hey guys,

Can anybody lend a hand? I just got my hands on the latest VRay *claps & cheers* but I have no idea on how to make car-paints or chrome using VRay Materials. If anybody can help, I need to know how to make the following:

- Metallic Car Paint
- Standard Gloss Paint
- Chrome

Please don't send me material libraries or such as I really enjoy making the materials from scratch to expand my knowledge. Thanks guys!! Peace out,

For chrome set the diffuse colour to black and set the reflections to almost the maximum (change the "colour" to white instead of the default black) and go on grom there. This is the very basic chrome material.

Standard gloss paint can be achieved similarly. Set the diffuse to which ever colour you wish and fiddle with the reflection amount until you achieve what you want.

I´m sure there are many ways to make them more lifelike, but for starters this should work,Metallic paint is a bit more difficult but i´m sure some of the more experienced users can help you out.

Sesim - FYI- the site that you present in your post is a great place to get vray material, only down part is most of the car material one don't work.

I downloaded a number of them and I keep getting an error message, but now if your looking to create a scene with building and stauff then this if the site you live off.

To add realism don't forget to select Falloff to all materials.
In case of paint, Fresnel from Dark to Light color, the other way around if it's metallic. Reflection dark grey.
In case of chrome, very dark grey to very light grey, Perpendicular/Paralell.
Reflection light grey (not too light)
