problem with scale and weld

Okay, I modeled a car some months ago. 2003 Chevy Impala. Because its pretty messed up, I want to update it, make it more accrate with less polies. The car was big in size when i modeled it, but I had to scale it down so its small enought for gta.

Now, I want to work at it again, I scaled it up again so I dont get problems with the camera of max. No problem sofar. But weld seems to be totally wierd now. I want to weld some splitted edges at the really big wheel, thats why I hide everything thats not important, select all vertices of the wheel and click at the little box next to weld. 1 seems to be too much, everything is messed up so i choose 0,001. But its still too much welding. All of my chamfered polylines get welded, and thats the problem. Even with 0,001 3ds max messes up my giant mesh. I already clicked at transform/scale, but nothing wants to change.

What should I do?

first things first, reset the X-Forms of the model you were working on, then convert the object to editable mesh, then editable poly... or whatever you model with.
