I'm probably not going to get the trial, but hopefully if I can save up enough money, I'll get it when I get myself a very nice Boxx machine.

But yeah, 3ds max 2k8 seems to be quite possibly what will make a lot of my 3d dreams come true

Not really sure i should be doing this lol (if not please delete the post or edit it)

I really dont like filling in details (usually false details) to autodesk and other companies to download software files so, if you want the direct download link to the 3DS MAX 2008 trial here it is

>>DOWNLOAD HERE<<

The download includes vista 32 bit and 64bit

2k8 seems stable but it is yet to be seen. 9 was a mess, 8 was more stable. I Don't see a lot of new function yet and performance seems slower with 2k8 for some reason though it is supposed to be better. They didn't fix anything in iGES translation import so I assume the nurbs modeling is still pedestrian. I really wish they would spend some time on improving the nurbs functions like fillet and blend. Nurbs is much more transportable between programs.

this image was created in 2k8 by exporting from CATIA into MAX through a program called Polytrans. The CATIA nurbs were converted to polys by Polytrans so if you zoom real close you can start to see some faceting though it looks ok in this shot. Actually, now that I look more closely as in the second image, the faceting through the translator is much better in 2k8 vs max9. Could be just the translator but maybe 2k8 polys are smoother.

one other thing, I haven't investigated it yet, but my render farm (more like a garden since it is only 5 nodes) is hanging on DBR with 2k8. Might be a firewall issue or something but I have to kill 2k8 with task manager to get out of it. It should at least give an error. (ps: DBR is working ok now, if I don't finish this note soon I'll have to rewrite it).

the inset was photoshopped.
