Tom i really dont know what the problem is.It works like it does with every other max you press alt to go to the menu.

i think its a windows option, so i dont know if you could do it in max.

Not sure what you mean either. But when I press ALT and middle mouse button Max 8 lets me rotate the view

Im always holding middle mouse button first then i press alt to rotate not alt first,thats ur problem!

It doesn't matter if I press ALT first or middle mouse button. Works both ways for me. But if I press ALT only it goes to the menus.
