new to 3ds

Ok so Ive recently picked up 3dsmax 9 after a in depth semester of lightwave. i have a general understanding of how these programs operate in theory but of course im used to lightwave. the problem im used to lightwave but honestly for what i want to do (car modeling) its just not working so i want to attempt to try 3ds since i have the opportunity. Ive read several tutorials on modeling in 3ds but all of them are still to "well you should already know how to do this" steps. are there any tutorials that are really dummied down for the extreme basics that are still working? Most of the ones Ive come across are dead links.

best thing to do is play around with Max and get a feel for it... it took me a few days to grasp the basics, but overall it's a great program.

here's a link that helped me (great site): DM Multimedia - 3D Ford Escort RS Mk1, Escort RS Mk2 also: 3DTotal Tutorials very cool tuts

sweet thanks for the help. ill give it as much time as my horrible school and work schedule allows lol. I would model in lightwave but the blueprint setup is much less effective IMO. i can never get the splines to match up on the next image etc.

I recently built a car for a homework assignment in lightwave. Its part of a commercial we had to make in my animation class. Its a 97 Nissan 240sx with a body kit and wheels and all that jazz (tire commercial). Anyway the construction of the car was done based off a flat 2d vector i made in illustrator like a year ago. I then brought it into lightwave and extruded it along with alot of boleaning to get the curves and such.

Polymodling in 3ds max is easy to learn, i would start their and learn how to set up blueprints in the viewports. But tutorals even the greatest ones cant teach as much as just messing around with the program. Try to learn the interface of course and how to use the basics in the program first.

Drawing cars is not easy (obviously) so maybe start with some smaller projects that you think you can do to start. Good luck!
It took me like 4 really bad polymodling cars before I got a result that looks kind of okay, but you might pick it up faster then me i would hope haha.
