Well I am still new to this. I've only taken a class in high school and all I did there was poly modeling. I've never taken on something as big as this. I'm trying to make it look as real as possible. This spline cage is there any good tutorials on it? Thank you both for your help. I think I should have started out with a smaller project but this is my main x-mas present to my dad. I'll just try my best I guess, lol. Thanks again guys.

i think the confusion here is mistaking a spline-cage for spline modelling...all a spline cage is is a bunch of guidelines which you draw based on your blueprint, which you then just use as a guide for ordinary poly modelling...as opposed to spline modelling (which doesnt work well at all)

tomsullivan donated a spline cage, just download the max file and have a look http://www.smcars.net/forums/chevrol...ht=spline+cage

Thanks for clarification. You can also take a look to an article from me showing the way I work :

Pixels or Atoms ?

I hope it'll be helpful.

I'm giving that a try right now. After that do you model each peace individually, with polygon modeling? I'll post it when I'm finished, if you all don't mind pointing out what needs to be fixed. Thanks for the tutorial by the way. And again for all you guys help.

Heres the spline cage I made. Is it any good?

Please edit instead of double posting.

After that, I model each part one by one, yes. General shape first, add some details then. Focus on modeling before trying to get nice renders, so do only clay renders until model is complete.

I can't critic your spline cage. I am no Max user, and the .max file you posted require Max to be read.
