Help with backround

I'm making a model of my step dad's 1979 trans am for his x-mas present and having it rendered and blown up in a poster. I got some really good blue prints for it but I'm having a really hard time cutting the picture up so the views are proportionate. I used to have photo shop but I didn't have anymore room left on my comp for both programs. I was wondering if someone could tell me way or possibly cut them up for the site. Thank you, Phoenix454.

Your going to have a hard time matching these up. they're not very proportional. Can you not find blueprints that are not photographs

finding 100% matching blueprints is probably impossible. that is why you need reference images. you first model somthing according to the prints and then compare it with a magnifying glass to the original. only by going that way, you will be able to get a good result.

usually the eyeballing will be done by yourself, but if you post in the WIP section, i am sure someone will help out with erros or problems you might stumble upon

Thank both of you very much. I guess I'll try to eye ball it the best I can. I'm trying to make it look as real as possible to show what our cars are going to look like when they are fully restored. Thanks again.

I'm not sure, but if I remember correctly, the TransAm is based on another car. If you can't find blueprint for the TransAm, search for blueprints of this other car.

It will help you to model the main volumes of the car : length of hood, height of roof, size and location of headlights, and so on. Build you a wire model : what is called a spline cage when one use splines.

Once you get it right, put blueprint to trashcan and model only with refpics.

And for sure, post it in WIP section, we'll try to find out mistakes if any.

Thanks Nik. As I'm not from USA, I'm not perfectly aware of every US car ever made.

So use it for your search. As an example, here's a side print of 79 camaro :

Yeah the Camaro and the Trans am are GM sisters. Only difference is the drive train and body kit. I have never really worked with spline to be honest I've done a lot of poly modeling but never really messed with spline I guess I'll try some spline tutorials and see what I can come up with. Thank you - Phoenix454

if you are working with 3DSMax i wouldn't recommend splines. poly modeling is the one strong point of max. from what i have read max really fails when it comes to spline modeling.

I wrote about spline just because of the "spline cage" thing. Doing such a cage with polys works exactly the same, and it's just what I do for every car I model. So throw away the spline word if you don't like it.

Sorry for have been unclear.
