English is not my mother tongue. And I guest it's not yours too
![]() What do you want to know ? What's the difference between OpenGL and Direct3D ? Which one should be use in Max ? Or how to tell Max to use one and not the other ? ![]() ![]() Currently project : Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster Previous : Marcos 1800 GT (60's winner), Ariel Atom II (LightIsRight winner), SuperSeven (WZA #4) See my work and my tutorials on www.thomasbaron.net |

There is no absolute best to choose. It depends on the quality of your video card drivers, in terms of OpenGL support and Direct3D support. NVidia is known to offer good OpenGL drivers. The best move will be to test both, and see if there is any difference within the viewport (as it will only be used for viewport, not for render)
If I remember well, once upon a time there was a "Preferences" entry within the "File" menu. But as I'm no Max user for years (v2.5 !!!), I let regular users to confirm that. ![]() ![]() Currently project : Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster Previous : Marcos 1800 GT (60's winner), Ariel Atom II (LightIsRight winner), SuperSeven (WZA #4) See my work and my tutorials on www.thomasbaron.net |

i have tried both on my computer and found that i can have a lot more polygons at a single moment with using direct3d... it was laggy with opengl... where as direct3d i could rotate smoothly
but like tom said, it pretty much depends on your graphics card |
