Exporting .3ds causing texture rename
I am currently working on a project for the game RFactor and encountered an issue. When I export to .3ds some of the textures with the longer names get renamed. Is there any way to go around this? Because when I import the model into 3dSimEd (rfactor importing software) the textures that arnt renamed are mapped automaticly and the once that were renamed i have to go back and find.

Before exporting to 3ds reset xform from all objects. That should fix the size problem.
I dont think there's nothing to do for the normal and name problem except trying to export file to another format. I usually export my files to .dff (VC format) if I need to use ZMod for example. I never use 3ds since it just mess the mesh. Then normals and names etc doesn't mess up |

usually it tries to shorten the texture names to "8.3" ... eg "carbody1.jpg" .. so if you plan to use .3ds or other "gaming" style formats, use the "8.3" name layout... so thats "8 - letters for the name" and " 3 - letter extention"
hope that helps ![]() ![]() 2nd Place in the SMCars "WZA" contest ---- www.gvgraphics.co.uk ---- www.myspace.com/greenvampire ---- ---- SDMF ---- BLS UK Chapter ---- |
