I hate 3dsmax !!

Everytime Im using 3dsmax and getting into some timetroube because I have to finish something, I get some funny error messages which pretend to finish the thing, and slowly drive me into total madness.

Now after posting my models in the finish section I was working on some thing until max crashed. After that about 10 of my last savings are corrupt also the autobak files.
Only way to restore them is to merge them in a new file.

After saving and opening the merged files again I got the unexpected Exception **** Error Message again so its no more possible to open my files on normal way only merge in a new file.

Somebody had something like that before?

I also noticed that max crashed everytime after pressing F4 to change to wireless view.
Dont know if this has something to do with this?

dont know why max hates me this much, I only tried to change some of the lightnig and did nothing special.

Someone has a clue what could be wrong?

That happens to me all the time in 3ds max 7, Sure its anoying, all I do is save a lot, and work with not many polys on the screen, then i use bounding box when i am doing rendering stuff. Also make sure you are not working with nurbs, or modifying the mesh when NURMS is on. That might cause problems. Good luck! Its hard to trouble shoot for other people, perhaps tell us what version of 3ds max you are using, how high the poly count is when your working. If you got 3ds max legit or from torrent. Things like that are very help full.

yea max 7 did that a lot, and also max's stability depends a lot on your computer's RAM, graphics card etc. so if they could be the problem.

first rule of thumb I live by is to never use the auto-backed-up files. Each time I do that, I end up with issue upon issue with the file later on, so much to the point I've had entire strings of files end up corrupt beyond belief

hahha yeah i have had recover.recover.recover.recover before, just because it kept crashing, just save the file before you do something big on your project.

Had the same problems with max. If you have a corrupt file, dont try to open it in max. Just open the file itself in your scene folder. After 20 times of trying, you might be able to open it. Cant remember if it was okay after saving it, but I finished the car. Best way to solve this problem, ban 3ds max7 from your hard drive and use a newer version. max 7 is just ****

ok, thanks for the answers. Im working with max 9 but somehow having more problem with corrupt files than with max 8.

I handeled it with merging the corrupt file in a new file, and then immediatly collapse the stack. I had some Nurms Modifier on which perhaps caused a problem or some other modiflier.
After collapsing the stack it was possible to save and load the files again.

well, like mentioned before, if it's a version you downloaded from bit torrent the program and installation files could be corrupt.

if it's a paid for (legal) version I would contact AutoDesk.

Here is a link to the AutoDesk website for hotfix items for 3Ds Max and other general FAQs
