Background issues

I've just about finished another one of my project, but this time I was going for a dark grey background.

Now heres my problem, when I add a spot light to the scene, you see the light shining on the background, and I don't want this I only want the light to affect the car and not the background. Now before on previous project I just excluded the background. But this time around I get a pitch black background.

Any ideas on how I can get away with fixing this problem or how I can have a well light car on a dark background.

oh , I'm using Vray on 3dmax 7.

I have a newer version, so this might not be to useful...
When you open the Render window, you will see the "Render Preset" like in the attached pic,
Select that little wheel looking icon....

Then when the "Enviroments and Effects" window comes up, click that colored box (black in my pic) and it will open a pallete for you to selct a new color...

Additional note... Clicking the bar that says "NONE" allows you to choose an Enviroment Map
