perhaps more people would be able to help you if you showed what kind of headlight you're trying to make...
Like, one of those "full" lights, like you'd see on lots of '80's vehicles, like an '87 thunderbird or '89 taurus?
one of those fogged up cheap plastic light "glass" that's all yellowed and doesn't offer good light throughput?
Or something covering the pieced-together lights like you'd see in many of the 'modded out' vehicles... see them quite frequently on '02 imprezas, or '00 celicas or something of that nature?

Hi willi_44, I'm a Blender user so I can explain how I do my own headlights : for a basic setting, you can do the following :
- Model according to any "headlight tutorial" you can find on SMCars. Anyone is fine, even not for Blender !
- Important thing : think to give a realistic thickness to your glass parts (do it by making first a plane part, then extruding it)
- For your material setting, you can use the default "clear glass" preset in Blender.
Have fun and post here your homeworks !

Looks clean so far. Hard to tell if your headlights will look right with screenshots Keep going !
PS : You should open a thread in WorkInProgress forum to show your progress. And feel free to edit your posts to add a picture if you remember to add it shortly after your first post.

Thanks for my site. Not alive as I want it to be, but hehe this is what is called "never enough time"
For tutorials, I found this one here : 3Dcar gallery 2001 << Tutorials >>
As I said in previous posts, not Blender specific but relevant and useful : modeling the parts the author exposes doesn't require high skills in Blender.

I have seen your link, it's very interresting and useful and i have understood the method but we haven't the same option in blender as 3dsmax.
And i'm a novice on blender and i'm very bad on texturing and rendering (i don't know all option and method).
thanks again
Will

What option are you talking about ?
About texturing & rendering, I will give a try their use of a texture as bumpmap / refraction map for the headlight cover. I may write down my attempts as a Blender tutorial on my site if anyone is interested.

let me help you:
Tutorials/Materials/Clear Glass - BlenderWiki
to make a clear glass (it's not working already, but you can learn some useful things)
CGTalk
if you have time tou can look here. once i found much about blender, but i've lost it.
my question - how to make a material for hood etc.? that's what i still don't know.
yeah, I'm interested in this tutorial. just let me know if you do this, and when you do this.

Holy_Satan, any help is welcomed. I don't to be the only one in SMCars to answer Blender-related questions. I think there is a whole bunch of power-blender-users around there.
I've currently not so much time for CG (2nd child to born in a few days, then move to a new house 500km away from here, then new job) But anyway, I'm currently writing some tutorials :
- Realistic rendering with YafRay : both outdoor and studio style will be covered.
- Realistic lighting to mimic different daylights.
- Car modeling.
Actually, I didn't try the bumpmap / refraction map, and I even forgot I promised a tutorial about it. Will work on it.
PS : I'm also spending some time on rewriting a custom blog engine for mine with either CakePHP or Django... So no need to say I can't promise to publish all tutorials within the month
