Setting up blueprints
Well, I got a problem.
I am trying to set up some blueprints of a Mustang GT (2005) which I got from the blueprint section of this great forum ![]() Obviously I am using Blender, newest version. I built a "blueprint cage" just like I saw in a tutorial and uv-mapped the blueprint on its faces (side, front, back, top). All manipulation to the blueprint I did was making it smaller so it fitted in the blender window. I fitted the uv-faces exactly to the blueprints. Now the problem: The views don't fit each other. If I move a vertex e.g. in the front window to the appropriate height on the front blueprint it ends up at a different height in the side window. Thus, I can't model the Mustang. ![]() The same holds true for a blueprint of a corvette C6 I found here. Am I too stupid? Or is it Blender's fault? Also: How can I set the plane to see-through so I can see the blueprint behind it? Last edited by 13bullets : 06-04-2007 at 04:09 PM. |

Thanks to you both!
And here I was thinking there was a nice clean method just like the tutorials suggest ![]() @emc_deux: Do you crop the respective blueprints (front, top etc.) and apply them one by one to the respective windows? I did so once but I had to use the same width and height for the four images (like for example the size of the top view applied to the front view etc. resulting in a lot of white background) to make them appear properly in Blender. This is why I thought uv-mapping them was easier. And also more correctly. |

I agree with Catlin and emc_deux. Maybe you're talking about the tutorial I wrote (on my website Pixels or Atoms ?).
If this is the case, you should know that I always set up my blueprint this way, and I'm modeling the way emc_deux described. It may not be the best available, but I'm get used to and I work easily now. About the blueprint not matching one view with another, it's yet another reason not to rely only on blueprint for modeling. Just put rough shape of the car and then forget blueprint and work only with refpics. Keep working ! ![]() ![]() Currently project : Lamborghini Murcielago LP640 Roadster Previous : Marcos 1800 GT (60's winner), Ariel Atom II (LightIsRight winner), SuperSeven (WZA #4) See my work and my tutorials on www.thomasbaron.net Last edited by tom120934 : 06-05-2007 at 03:30 AM. |

I wouldn't mind if they wouldn't fit exactly but the pictures I posted show a huge difference ![]() I'll try the rough shape then refinement approach then It worked for the car I have in my garage so it may work for a car I'd like to have in my garage, too ![]() Thanks for your replies! |

13bullets : send me a PM with your email address and I will send you a blend file with blueprint set up.
Also, If you used a blueprint find here for the GT. The front and back view are in perscpective view not orthogonal. This is the reason that the views don't fit. This one seem to be better : http://www.smcars.net/forums/attachm...stang5view.png Last edited by emc_deux : 06-05-2007 at 05:47 AM. |

If you want i've got a video tut showing you how to setup blueprints in blender. You can fix the blueprints proportion problem with my tut. I don't know if it works in your case.
You can download it from my site. Techno Corp- Jithu Tutorials Last edited by jithu : 11-03-2007 at 06:11 PM. |
