The animation too. The project was codenamed "Project Peach", just like the previous one (who gave us the short movie "Elephants Dream") was codenamed "Project Orange" : Elephants Dream and Big Buck Bunny (which redirects to Big Buck Bunny)

These are the two first free movies ever : free not only as in free beer, but also and mainly as in freedom. The movie is available to anyone, the movie sources are available to anyone, etc.

Both projects are responsible for a great improvements in Blender. It's no surprise than Blender leader, Ton Roosendaal, was producer for Big Buck Bunny.
