Pretty New To all this.

Hey guys!

I'm pretty new to 3d modeling but have drawn (extremely detailed) cars, have had a love of cars for pretty much all the 16 years of my life.

All i can do in blender so far is the simple extrude, scale, grab+move functions, and have messed about with colour and hair a little bit. Not that i will be making any furry cars!

I'm just wondering where do you guys start off? i dont really want to jump into a fully detailed, full engined model, accurate down to the rusty sills, i want to start off, for example, with a wheel?

Any good tutorials and tips would be greatly appreciated!

I pick things up quite easily and have a very large patience!

Thanks,
Chris

Welcome to the boards Chris

Our admin Tom120934 has made few tutorials for Blender which you can find from his website. I'm sure Blender.org has good tips aswell, I'm not using Blender myself so I cannot help you out much with it but many people here are so I'm sure they will give you help when needed

Your first model doesn't have to be detailed and you can choose as simple car as possible, somekind of van or any other boxy car which is easy to shape up.

When you're ready to start your car make a thread to our wip boards

I'm currently writing a huge tutorial about detailed modeling. But as it's not currently finished (1), my advice would go to the 2 following ressources. Both are in french, let me know if you need extra help if you don't speak french, but pictures speak for themselves.

- A very detailed WIP which is almost a de facto tutorial : Forums - [WIP] et travaux terminés - Wip-tuto : Honda S-2000 - The Blender Clan

- A tutorial about modeling a Shelby GT 500 : Blender Factory - Modéliser une Shelby 500 - page 1

Hope it helps, otherwise feel free to ask any question here !

And by the way, welcome to SMC, I hope you'll enjoy your stay here.

(1) And it's far from being completed, because I'm really busy these times with mastering Pentaho software

Thanks for the replies guys, i did speak french for 3 years at school but most of us blew it off. i'm sure i can pick up little bits, and as you said pictures probly speak for themselves. If not i'll try some online translator!

Thanks
Chris

Better than online translator, I can contact the author of the Shelby tutorial to propose him to translate his text. I think the text is worth the effort and I think it can be useful to many people.

Had a look at the tutorial and looks easy to follow but the translator was no help

If you could ask him to translate that would be an amazing help, and i'll post my progress up when i'm done.

Thanks!
Chris

I'll ask him if he agrees about me translating his work. Stay tuned.
