LuxRender

I'm getting some nice results with LuxRender. I'm using newest build (from forum).

They are working on version 0.6, it will be even better.

Render times can be long.

There is a script for in Blender, it works nice.

Thanks, but to be honest, I did not model it, I only did render.

Even if you didn't model the render looks very good. Would be nice if it was possible to benchmark
Luxrender, Indigo and Kerkythea for speed(Kerkythea's MLT or bidirectional)

Guess I must try yet another renderer (if only to postpone trying to get better at modelling)

Yeah your right. I too should get better in modelling first before starting to render stuff.

You got perhaps some good tutorials that explain how to place those vertexes and edges correct?

Well nothing really good. Thomas Baron (Tom120934) has a nice little tut on blueprint setup, on his homepage, and a little about shader setup in Yafray and Yaf(a)ray - but i'm ore into the renderes mentioned above at this time - the MLT might be slow but the results are nice - btw how long to render the rim?

There is a cars issue of Blenderartmagazine I believe issue 8. (Tom contributed to this).

And I have tried (still in process) doing the Fiat500 on 3dtotal.com, while it's made for 3dsmax it is possible to do - but 3dsmax has some options that is not in blender.

Else I look at the mesh shots posted here - which usually leads to just general drooling over the cars shown, or selfpity over not having the ability.

That render took 2 hours and 47 minutes, but that's overdone because it's very smooth. The S/px is 8000 and 5000 should be enough. I left it running a bit too long. Also, I might have set it on wrong settings so it takes longer to render.

For a free render I still find it amazing good looking (so what for a little extra time). By the way, they are going to add and did add more stuff into it, for example motion blur.

I actually don't necessarily think that is so long considering everything, but then again machine power probably has some say. But reaching 8000 samples/pixel with indigo would take longer on my computer I believe - again that's also subject to machine, scene and materials.

I downloaded it yesterday but never got around to install, should put that on the list for tonight. then try to render the same scene in both renderers, to the same level of samples. unfortunately i cant seem to find that info in Kerkythea - it just tells how many ray tracing passes has been completed

I used some wrong settings (that is why fireflies), but it turned out (after resizing) nice, if you ask me.

Smile

LuxRender has some nice new features (like vignetting and light groups) coming up in version 0.6. The weekly build already has it.

Here is an example of what it can do (this time my own model ):

Really nice, can you share with us your lighting and shaders settings ? I guess it could be of interest to many of us, not only blenderheads.
