impreza/subaru owners? Remote lock/unlock beep issues

Yo, this question goes out to the folks who own a subaru, specifically an impreza. On mine (and countless other imprezas I've heard... not so sure about the non-impreza models though), when you unlock or lock the car, the car beeps to let you know that your remote device signal was received, as the car doesn't really lock or unlock its doors loud enough to be heard from more than a couple feet away.

But lately, my car seems to have issues with this beeping. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes the beeping cuts out mid-beep, and a couple times, the beep was even higher pitched or lower pitched than it should've been.

So my question is, where is this little beep speaker, and how do I make sure the connections on it are doing okay? -- like, where is the wire for it and stuff? Or is there something else I should be looking for instead or as well?

(Edit)

btw, I tried locating it on my own, but as far as I can tell, it sounds like it's originating from the fan belts... and I know that can't be right, can it? lol Is it perhaps in front of the radiator or something?

I personally do not own a Subaru. But, I do know about most factory car alarms and remote starters. Usually on most car models the little speaker that they use for the alarm is in front of the radiator by the drivers side head lamp

hey man, found a pic to help you out, take a look where the grill is, (actually, inside the grill, the empty space there) on the left side there is black circular thing, thats the speaker you should be looking for, just to give you and idea where approximatly its located, and what it looks like

Yeah, it's up near the grill. I have an 02 wrx though. You can look at the back of the key fob and there are instructions to turn off the horn. That's what I did....I kinda hated the noise, lol.

What model do you have?

I've got an '04 outback sport wagon.

I believe I've found it, just to the left of the support going down the middle of the grille, just below the grille opening, so nothing flies into it and messes it up... The connections looked okay, but just to be sure I tried pushing the connector up to it more. So far it hasn't cut out any more, from my use today - but time will tell.

It did look fairly dirty though, and just touching the connections to re-secure the thing got my fingers pitch-black. I should have the dealer clean the engine compartment and undercarriage when I go there next time. Then I've just GOT to install that rear differential cover O_O. Hopefully it came with instructions

forget directions, the thing you want to worry most about is if it will fit properly; thats usually the majority of problems with parts (unless that part is still in production?)

but yea, if you're going to get the engine cleaned, have the dealer do it, its quite a daunting process if you dont know where to begin (and trust me.. its alot harder to clean an engine than the average person would think)

the cover is an official spt (or whatever) part for the car, so it should fit about as well as the official mudguards did. And yeah, Probably nothing too fancy on the engine cleaning - I think they just use steam or something. It worked wonders on my mom's caprice's engine, for such a quick process. We had to do that when the battery leaked all over the place under there >_<

ooooh :S battery leaks are not a pretty sight, especially when you dont notice them for a while until you discover half your engine bay is missing :O

cleaning an engine takes some elbow grease, its a pain in the butt for an ordinary person, no water (very little i guess) can be used, if you do wash down your engine chances are it will never start up again

as for the part, if it is an SPT part then it should fit perfectly
