SMCars goes topless ! The 2010 summer contest

Le Mans 24 hours are behind us, so it's official : summer is here !!! And here, everyone who says summer, thinks "what kind of contest SMCars has thought about ?".

Here's the 2010 official contest for this summer : SMCars goes topless !!!

The idea is really simple : model and render a roof-less car. Any roofless car can apply : convertible (no matter soft or hard top), targa, spider, roadster, etc. You can even make your own from an existing model, or design an all-original concept.

Rules are the following :

- Any car you want. Existing model or a concept or your own design or inspired from a comic or... You got the idea I guess.

- This car must be able to go topless : no matter if the roof is fabric or hard-top, no matter if it can be hidden inside the car or fully removed from it and put into the garage. A roadster without any roof or a plain old convertible where roof is just folded are fine, too.

- No limits about modeling job (high poly, low poly, next gen model with normal maps...), no limits about texturing job (any number of textures, any size...), no limits about rendering job (GI, radiosity, ambient occlusion...) and of course no limits about software.

- Model has to be created from scratch, with absolutely no use of any existing element of your old work or somebody else’s.

- No teaming up. This must be solely your own project.

- A WIP thread must be created and properly updated during the contest, in the dedicated section : SMCars goes topless : the 2010 Summer contest - Scratch Made Cars - Car Blueprints Forum. SMC team is allowed to disqualify a contender showing too few updates. You must prefix your thread name with "Topless : ".

- For final entries, must be rendered two main shots showing off the model at it's best angles. Studio renders would be fine, however creativity within renders is advised. Remember it's summer, but some crazy folks loves spider under the snow.

- The time by which you must have your creations finished and renders uploaded in the to-be-opened dedicated thread is the 15th of September, 23:59:59 (11:59:59PM) GMT. 3 months, period.

edit: Dissaster: I think the first line you quoted means you can make your own topless-model of a car that was not originally produced topless, so it means car models, not 3d models.

it means you can model a car that isnt a convertible and turn it into one using your own creative juices...you still have to build it from scratch for this competition though

wooo.. all summer and I'm now school free man.. I think that I'll jump in to this one....

combination of a Aston Martin Db9 Front and Ferrari 360 modena back ...and some concept parts I'll start collecting Ref pictures.. and fixing up the blueprints tonight

@dissaster : yes, Juki_fi and The IC are right : you can adapt an existing car (in real life) but you can't reuse an existing 3D model.

@dissaster (2nd ) : you can open your wip thread right now, even if you're not posting working this week. But this can't prevent someone else from "stealing" / having the very same idea. No rule forbids that 2 contenders do the same model, as long as they do their own on their side, without any model exchange.

I think I'm in with a Hennessey Venom GT Targa.

10x to all about the explanation, i was little bit tired, so i can't make difference in first place . About the thread, i haven't got enough time since a read about the contest on my Nokia waiting for the dentist, and after a such argument about the idea in last contest I participate, now I decide to say it, if someone also model the gallardo it'll be good for both of us, i think, i like the competition.

p.s.
After all good luck to everyone, and i personaly can't wait to see the Venom topless, that was my second thousgh, but i prefer the easy Gallardo (blush)

I might be in with a Land Cruiser BJ40, that really has a removable hardtop.
