HELP PLEASE

this is a really noob question but its the biggest and probably only thing im having trouble with. I convert a box into an editable poly to try to model a car, but my problem is that when i move verticies the entire shape of the box doesnt move; "new lines" are created instead of just the original vertice and line repositioning themselves. Please help

Created Box:

Attempted to move verticie, whole mess created...

HELP PLEASE

if you are just clicking on a vertex and dragging to move it, you only select one vertex, when there are 2 verts lined up underneath eachother in that view...

you'd need to click and drag a selection box around the vertices there, or else rotate the view to one in which you can see both vertices, then return the view to the original view to move them properly.
