material slots
The material editor just shows a collection of the materials that exist in your scene. So just click the X and you will get a question something like this: "Do you want to remove the material from the ME and Scene, or ju just ME" so if you click "just ME" the material will still be in the scene and you can get it back with the "Get Material" button.
So in short: The ME just shows materials from the Scene, the scene can have loads of materials |
