3D MAX spline, how to unify mirrored objects ?

Hi, it is about spline modelling in 3D studio MAX (im using old v4, but will update soon)
1. can some one tell me how is the best way to unify both part of our model after we mirror it ? should we weld every point or is there any other methods ?
2. Also why after we weld the point not really became 1 ? Some times i move them and there are 2 points there ? i also use old lightwave and in lightwave when we weld 2 points they are really became 1...
Or perhaps this is the MAX nature I must cope ?
3. What is the different between fuse and weld ?

what the... I could've sworn this was opposite....

fuse - bring to same position, and weld - merge as one....

unless that's another thing 3dsmax has gracelessly changed from version to version

-edit-

actually just read that he was using v4, so yeah, pretty sure that's how it's going to operate.

also, weld only works on open vertices. If you've got two lines made up with 3 vertices in each line, and the center verts are in the exact same position as one another's, they still won't be able to be welded....

so if you've got half a car, and you have the line going down the center of the car, that line will not be weldable with the lines going down the width of the car.

or.. at least, shouldn't be weldable. If you can weld them, then something's up with the splines heh
