3dsmax 5.0+ users : Editable Poly or Editable Mesh? O_O
Well, for pretty much all my modeling life, I've only used editable mesh objects for when I want to turn edges. I've always modeled the objects I make as Editable Polys.
What do you do your modeling in? Especially targeted towards those who frequently build high-poly models...
The reason I ask, is because most of the time when I model, I find myself having to save extrordinarily frequently, and having to keep quite a few different "versions" of the same file. This due to the fact that I've found max way too unstable to trust it to anything more than 2 or 3 minutes of modeling work, and perhaps as many as 1 new file per 20 minutes of modeling work.
I was wondering if anyone else notices such instabilities, such as max weirding out (example, edges not showing up, and I try to investigate the problem by detaching the problem area, only to see a "Mesh Editing : Operation Failed." dialogue appear. Then it looks as though it deleted the faces I tried to detach... so I hit undo, and nothing appears, I do maybe one more thing, I forgot what, and max crashed out on me. I was using editable poly.
So... if you notice instabilities, what type of object are you working with? Editable Poly, or Editable Mesh most of the time?
Also goes for if you notice near-perfect stability... are you working with Editable Polys, or Editable Meshes most of the time?
I'm going down to Editable Mesh modeling for a while, so I can see if it's any more stable or not than an Editable Poly objet is.
P.S. - I'm not talking about minor mesh editing nearly as much as I'm talking about modeling pretty much the whole thing from scratch... but either way, please give your input on this matter
