Few Problems, Questions - 3dsMax

Hey, i am a new Modeler and i have a few questions, that i can't solve. I've been making a 180SX, in parts. It's been really good, but, sometimes i have this problem, where the wire on the object goes blue and when you select a vertex it goes multicoloured and when trying to move the vertex it moves the surrounding area.

Also, how do i mirror a door, or panel properly, seeing it isn't at the centre?

Thanks in advance, -Jimmy.

This sounds like you have enabled soft selection on the modify tab ? A screen shot of this problem would probably help more though.

Mirror works around the pivot of your object (the point where the move/scale arrows are located) to mirror successfully you need to move the pivot of your object to the centre line, click on the hierachy tab and click "affect pivot only". now you can move the pivot of your object, to make it perfect you can rightclick on the move button and use the move-type-in dialog.

The problem is here again... i saved it and now it's like this. I think ctrl+s (save) does it... donno why. Can't take it off either.

Definitely soft selection. For some reason Ctrl+S in an edit poly modifier enables soft selection. Go into the box for the edit poly (or whatever it's called) and open up the soft selection tab and disable it. I always have the same problem, and I've been using Max for years!

It's like button bashing, except food comes out.
