I think 3D Studio MAX is more appropriate for novice.

HI !

There is no BEST but there is peoples preferences and various users liek various programs. You should download demos of several programs and try for yourself to see which way is best fit for you 'coz no matter if they all are basically same (doing 3D) workflow is different in them . So go and try Maya, Max, Lightwave, XSI, Blender, Cinema 4D, Rhino, modo......

cheers

wow you must be rich, allthose programs. I say start with 3ds max, its got a lot of tutorials and is more of a serious program, more like what you would use in school over zmodeller

you guys we seriously need to make a FAQ for the beginners or something because this question is being asked over and over. And also, if you use the search button, there would be no need for you to start a new thread on a question that was discussed over and over.

i have tried many of those programs, mostly at work, but iŽd recommend c4d, its very easy to pick up, unlike maya or lightwave. the only trouble is the cost.

i have certain reticence to recommend blender, despite the huge community around it and the tons of free tutorials it haves, i have seem many a noob scared after a few days with it, followed by the guy forgeting about it forever.

i dont say it happens all the time, but im yet to find someone IRL who still uses it.

To jaylong76 : I understand your point, but the same applies to a lot of 3D packages : a lot of newbies just give up after a couple of hours/days/weeks.

I have been using Blender for years, and I still do. Exclusively. Feel free to ask for support in the dedicated section here. I (and others too ) will do my best.
