N00b needs help

hey guys n gals, im new here and to 3d modeling, just got 3dsMax 5 and im find it a pain in the bum to do anythin with it.

Basically i wanted to know was, is startin in 3dsmax a good idea? iv herd the progs like lightwave and rhino are better and easier progs to use to model cars...is this true?

In my opinion, there is no tool that is 'better' than another. Ive seen amazing work with free software as blender and wings3d. It depends on you and the way you work. Maybe Max is just the right choice for you, maybe not. You´ll have to figure it out by yourself. There are free Demos of Lightwave, Rhino, Maya, etc. available. Just check them and find out. Its not the software that makes a model look good - its the artist.

If you find that LW and Rhino are still over your head (like I did), check out ZModeler; it's the easiest poly-modeler out there, though it doesn't support rendering, and the spline function is, well, more like a dysfunction.

u should buy a maya tutorial book! it comes with maya 5 personal learning edition. DEFINATELY worth it.

any program is just as good as the user in front of it

you can use any moden 3d-soft to model cars.. you maybe like some programs more than others
i favor maya.
