forget the 8800GTX get the new 9800 GX2 there better.. ill just build ur own instead of alienware... there kidna over priced.. i saved alot of money but if u dont want to build ur own ill chose the 1st option.. those 8800 GTX are nice but the 2900 has 1 gb of memory so yea.... so its hard choose but i would take the 8800GTX if u dont want to build ur own pc..

3GB with a patch on your OS. And if I remember well, there is a limitation per process.

What's your target software ? If there is a Linux version of it, I suggest to give it a try. Otherwise the solution is 64 bits (if your software does support it) or Windows Server : 2003 Standard version goes to 4GB, 2003 Enterprise version is require if more.

Seconly, it may not be relevant, but I have two graphic cards, due to the fact that I'm running 3 screens, and like tom said, it's the cpu that you need to look for rendering, because I attempted to do a detail car with engine, interior and and scene and I could not render it because of memory issue. If you are going to do anything, go with a 64 bit OS and you can pretty much ignore the comments about drivers, apps don't work etc. It's mostly rubbish and outdated info.

XP64 or Vista 64 is something a 3d person wants to have. I ignored the "it doesn't have drivers" and apps not supported comments and honestly I am glad I did. The driver issue was pretty much a non issue. Every release of windows has left people with orphaned hardware, sorry but that is just the way it is. XP64 gave me zero issues with scanners, printers, tablets, web cams etc. Also, a lot of 3D apps have full 64 bit versions, and all the rest load and run quite invisibly and without issue.

AND.....Not only is it more stable, but it's fun to run 8gb or more ram

As for AMD vs. Intel, while there is a difference, it is not as large as hardware bloggers make it sound. Go to a review site and decide if it's worth paying almost 1k for a CPU vs. 235.00 for a CPU with a fairly close performance.

I'm stickign with AMD for a couple reason, the new stepping Phenom Quad core is the equivalent of the Intel midrange. priced roughly the same, big difference is moterboards. a good quality AMD board can be had under 150.00, Intel you are looking more around 250.00 for the same quality/features.

And Intel's new Skulltrail, Dual quad core board, well 650.00+ for the motherboard, then add 1k each for processors. I'm not all that sure it's worth it. You can buy Tyan and Supermicro boards for AMD far cheaper.


depends on what you are comfortable with, absolute fastest, cost no object.... or a powerful machine that doesn't break the bank.

windows xp/vista can only run 3-4 gm and 3d cars are good my sugestion is to use SLI instest much better graphices
