Power supply help

Well, I know you guys cahelp me out, cause before you all been kind enough to provided me some helpful tips on my modeling. Now I busy doing a complete overhaul on my machine and need some help with choosing a power supply. Below are the parts that I've purchased so far.


XfX nforce 6i LT SLI Motherboard
Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Processor 2.20GHx
OCZ Platinum Revision PC6400 DDR2 0MHz Dual Channel Memory (4 gigs)
2x XFX GeForce 8600 GT Video Cards - 512mb DDr3. (reason for this is because I'm running 3 screens)
250gig SATA Hard drive

I thinking of purchasing a Coolmax 600watt Fan SLI Ready. Is 600watt enough or will I need to get a 0watt.

any help would be appreciated thanks

IMHO, 600W is a bit too much. This configuration will not use more than 400-450 W. So you can save some bucks if you need to. Choose a PSU as silent as possible, with pluggable wires to optimize internal layout of your case. And of course, don't go with a cheap case.

Well I don't need to worry about the case as it's a full tower and has plenty of breathing room. just wondering through would it hurt getting a power supply where I'd have say 100 to 200watt too much. Right now I'm got a 500watt in my system.

Well if 500watt is enough maybe I'll invest in getting new fan with more blades, Right now I'm running 4 fans with 7blades, maybe I'll upgrade to the silent runnign 9 blades

My own personal ultimate advice : choose the more silent parts you can. For example, I own a silent 8600GT from ASUStek.

It dosnt matter if you have a more powerful power supply as long as you can cover the amount of power going through your system you will be fine.IMO i would go for the 600w but thats just how i like things to be on the safeside so i dont have that risk of under power.

Of course like tom said silence is nice as i have my pc right next to my head bassicly

I would also say to stick with the 600W the more power you have, the less problems you have to worry about not needing enough power.

Example of not having enough power would be me. I have a 400W PSU for a Q6600, 80GTX, 4GB ram and a HDD, if this PSU blows, under load, then you whole system will short circuit, which means, you need a new rig. So more power, the safer, unless you spill water over it
