Character Rigging, adding IK's for a Arm problem..

for the arm, i have a clavicle joint, a shoulder joint, and elbow joint, and a wrist joint.

i add an IK chain from the clavicle to the shoulder joint, and an IK from the shoulder join, all the way to the wrist joint.

however, when i move the IK thats on the wrist (in the front view
from right to left), the elbow joint moves in an odd way in all directions. when i move it from right to left, th elbow moves up, and then twist when i move the IK further...

how can i fix this?

if you break the joint chain up into two, a clav and a calv_end, then duplicate the shoulder, delete every thing under it and cal it shoulder_ori and parent youre old shoulder chain under it, then point and orient constrain shoulder_ori to clav_end and if you like, add an attribute on youre clav con to turn on and off the orient constraint, thus making independant motion switch
