Maya Exporting

Hey there i know this may sound really stupid.In maya How the feck do i convert to .3ds i had something i modeled in maya and want to convert it into max for rendering but i cant find how to do all i see is some weird ****ed up filetypes do i need a plugin or something?

the only one you can export into max is .obj. If you go into maya click on
windows-->settings/preferences-->plug-in manager.
you want to make sure that objexport.mll is loaded. once loaded, to go
file-->export ..... and now you can export as an .obj, which can be imported into max

you could always download maya 6.5 / 7.5 (if u have 6 or 7 ) from autodesk they have an export/import .3ds plugin [donno about 8 as it might have it already]

there's no .3ds extention in maya but u can export it in obj format. most new versions of max have importers of the format. if u are using max 6 or a lower version , u can download the plugins for obj importers.

basssicly i just downloaded the trial of maya to kind of see what its like but i managed to get it working thanks
