some problems with my first car
I've been modeling for a little while with 3D studio max and i've been messing around with Maya the last few weeks and I'm glad it's a lot like 3dstudio max when it comes to the shortcuts, moving around vertices, faces, etc.
Anyways, I'm going to give my first shot at modeling a car here in Maya and have come up with a few problems that I'm hoping someone can help me out with. 1. I have my image blueprints set up. Everything is the correct sizing/perspectives, but when I try to set up the planes in Maya, the front plane is always 30% bigger than the other planes. I then tried to scale it, but the scale tool was on the front camera, not on the plane itself and when scaling it down and I would try to start some box-modeling, the box would line up with the side/top views but not the front view (i'm guessing because somehow scaling the camera from the plane messed it up.) 2. When my planes are all set up, I can't figure out how to move them on the X, Y, or Z Axis. I can move the camera, but not the planes themself. Btw, I'm setting up the planes via "View > Image Plane > Import Image". Should I just set up a polygon plane and assign the image to it instead? |

1. In the attribute editor, set the width n height to that of the blue pritn size (u can scale it to a smaller size too) for all image planes..
2. In the attribute editor for image planes, change the center X,Y,Z values to move the img plane. |

i think it is bcoz when u import the image plane, image planes is resized to the size of the view port. so if one view port has more no. of grids in the active view, its size is large compared to others.
edit: scaling n moving using the toolbar is not the way to do for imgplanes. |

I must have some sort of settings issue. When all my image planes are lined up, I'll start building the hood. Everything's lined up and the hood looks fine. Then when I move to another part, for some reason every blueprint lines up but then the side view will all of a sudden be misaligned.

Am sorry , but i didn't understand ur previous post.. if it were a problem , i would suggest u to template the image planes bcoz sometimes image planes move to original posn when clicked.
If ur previous post was not a query, forgive my stupidity!! ![]() |

![]() but yeah I think I must be doing that because for some reason, on the gundam blueprint I'm working, the front view image plane is suddenly higher than it's supposed to be by about 0.3 on the center Y. after correcting it, i'll model a bit more and it does it again for a different image plane. |
