You can model a car, and you cannot thickness it? Weird.
You can thicken it by copying say the hood....mirror it vertically, and set the distance u want. Then just bridge. Just one thing...Nobody that models cars thickens them. What u see, is just the edges extended and chamfered. That s all.
Ah...and dont use maya bevel tool....Is **** since version 1. Simply doesnt work.

Regards

so you want to extrude the whole model instead of the edges? well if you have maya 8.0 and up select the the part you want to extrude is hood....etc then go to edit mesh extrude and either use the manipulator tool or select the move tool and drag it in the direction you want

are you using polygons to model the car?

if you are... then select your model then convert to SubDivs and... that's all. you get an soft edged model.

one tip: when you model with polygons in maya... keep your model as simple as posible, subdivs gives you the necesary resolution to accomplish the work in the way you want.

cheers.

hey guys he wants thickness so do this at the end of your poly edges say at the bottom end of the door just turn the mesh or curve the mesh inside so you will get the feeling that the car has thickness

Wouldn't using Loft be easier and more consistent across the whole mesh? Loft the mesh, add a bevel or smooth edge to the edges of your visible edges of the mesh, then delete the faces that won't be seen.
