Cool WIP Midpoly Vehicle Contest: 1970 Monte Carlo

at least I think its a 1970 anyway.
Using the monte carlo from F&F:tokyo drift as main ref.
still loads to do, the renders dont really do it justice at this point, but will be lookin nice real soon.

Hopefully going to have a decent engine in, good interior, and decent wheels + exhaust system.
Im holding back alot on the body polys so that I can have a nice mix of everything, going to stick to 12 - 13,000 tris max for the body.
I plan to do a couple of textures on this one, a beat up version and a clean version.
anyways, CC welcome, just remember that the renders really aint doin it proud right now

looks like a really nice start so far... however the A-pillar seems to flare out as it goes up, and I'm somewhat certain it's a fairly constant size from bottom to top.

something just doesnt look right, not sure what tho...
going to put the textures on it tommorow and get some good renders, and finish the interior etc.

at about 15,000 tris at the mo, so not much left to play with... gunna finish a one for this mid poly comp, then keep going with the model & put more detail in it.

I've just noticed that I've got some problems with the normals on the backend, and the front should be more pointed..... back to work

cheers FlashG, can't beat the classics

Hey Zachary, nice to see another BLS brother

yeah, the front end was way dodgy, and the front of the roof was too boxy.... I've made some changes (see attached), the roof is still too boxy at the front, but I think the front end is a bit better now... let me know what ya's think.

also should add that im still texturing, so the ones seen in the attached pics aren't final

cheers for the props & CC so far people, keep it comin

*edit, I wanted the bonnet to open the wrong way.... just figured it looked cool

*edit, at 18,002 tris at the mo

Since it looks like you're even basing the exterior paint-job on the Tokyo Drift movie, I think it'd be wise to research into the Composite material. This allows you to have the main paint colour, then you're able to add scratch/dirt decals over the top of it. This is how I'm texturing my latest car. It's VERY handy!!

Also, I think it could go for some bigger tyres on the back ay...

is that what he drove in that movie? i just watched it and thought it was sooooo stupid. especially defiling that mustang... and theres no way that a 1970 monte carlo could have kept up with that viper the guy was driving at the start, haha.

anyways, your model looks pretty good, but your texture so far is quite bland. call me crazy, but i like the shiny cars!

Dr. Feelgood, I'll take a look into that composite material, any info you have is much apreciated.
I'm not 100% basing it on the tokyo drift version, just liked the yellow colour... going to do a clean version as well... possibly red or orange not sure yet

SarN, yeah its the one he drove at the start, I liked what they did with the mustang overall considering its more of an import car movie... they didnt do too bad to keep it looking nice, although it could have been a hell of alot better lol
and Don't worry, the clean version will shine this one wont tho, eventually this one will look like it hasn't been washed in a few years

ok, fixed a few things, front end looks right now (I think, feel free to say otherwise),
clean version, with offset single stripe, renders are still being tweaked but shoved these ones up for you's to look at.

at 19106 poly's so just gunna add some plates then leave it at that.

CC welcome as always
