Does text have to fit within these boundaries? or can we still let text go on until word-wrap takes effect... and then how many lines of text can we use?

Good points, I was about to clear it a bit but then I forgot... Anyways one can use several userbars if it doesn't get over sizelimits.

Text can be added under signaturepic two rows, or if you don't use pics in signature you can have more rows of text. I think width doesnt matter in that case so much.

Text is a good point indeed..
It's all about the size of sigpics, so, practically speaking, two rows would be nice.
But, you can just use smaller print, and use several lines.. I think the borders of that are a bit soft. If you have a whole story in your sig: please don't.. But several WIPs is no problem for me. But you could do it like this then:

Because certain people have HUGE signature pictures, which is annoying.
And, to be honest, this rule exsists as long as I'm admin here. I've always deleted sigpics bigger than ...×...
So please, don't act as if this is new and bad for the site.
