Sorry chaps, but we have discussed this and it is mentioned in the Weekly Write-Up that the Medals are being introduced NEWLY for 2008 contests and onwards. Previous contest winners will not be recieving Medals.

Good decision. What is the first contest to end this year : zombies or 's ? The one who will be awarded the first Gold Medal in SMC history will remain for centuries in our memories so the contest will be a real fight !

WZA will be the first because it was also based upon our new Contest Rules and Guidelines, and it is also the first Contest for 2008.

I understand that to you, SMC staff, the contest rules you choose are really important.

But the 's contest looks very well structured to me. Of course it wasn't made according to the rules, but it was because the rules didn't exist at that time. And as it will be over before WZA (end of February versus end of March) I really think you should allow it to accord medals.

To be straight, the same applies to the Real Life Carmageddon Car Challenge, but to me, there is no active entry and the end is in 2 weeks.

Again, the SMC Medals were designed to be a new feature for SMC for 2008. The mentioned contests, even though they may be well-structured and original, were still last year's contests which followed previous guidelines, and will unfortunately not carry the ability to award SMC Medals. The winners of the above mentioned contests will however still be displayed in all their glory on the Main Page when they are drawn.

We've spent time simplifying and updating our contest rules, and our subject to roll out these new guidelines is the WZA Contest. WZA is the standing example of how to follow these new rules, and therefore, fitting to be not only the first 'Official' SMC Contest for 2008, but the ideal first contest to introduce the SMC Medals to the SMC community.

I, on behalf of the SMC crew, do apologise for previous contest's creators and winners for not being apart of the introduction to SMC Medals, however you will all have a chance to provide contest ideas in the future that will, of course, entail the ability to award SMC Medals.
