Some of my work

As I mentioned in another part of the site, I'm an avid model builder but I don't do any on the computer. I build in styrene. Here's a small sample of what I do. Some things are from kits and some are scratchbuilt.

Hope you like

"Styrene is a toxin, an irritant, and a potential carcinogen."

I wondered what stuff you were making this out of - so how do you work with it?

Very nice work, the detail is extraordinary. Though reading about a description of the material makes me a bit wary for your health. Anyhow great job Ever thought of making an Ferrari engine? Or are you just going to stick with old muscle engines?

Thanks all you guys for the kind words. The styrene is easy to work with, in fact much easier than metal. Both the spark plug and the starter motor are completely metal, made from tubes and rods. The rest is all surface treatments. Many of the parts used in those builds come from a standard old styrene model kit in 1/8 scale. The scratchbuilt stuff like the tranny and the cam shaft are made from plastic sheets and rods which are pretty safe. You just cut them and cement the parts to make whatever you want. I stay away from mixing resins and liquid plastics. There are a bunch of builders who like to cast their parts rather than build them up from already hardened materials They are extremely toxic for sure and I want no part of them. When I do use chemicals like auto body filler, I use a good chemical respirator and lots of ventilation. That's the one thing my buddies and I are very strict on and that is safety. I'll post some more stuff when I get some more finished.
