Re: rescued vehicle...

Heheh, yep, Flash was first, but Zachary made it complete. It is an ex- Dutch army DAF 66YA .
Though it had a pretty rough life ( AFTER it was in the army that is ) in the hands of some local
rough-riders, it can be saved.

said revelli.
Well, it was either my backyard or the scrapyard, so I couldn' t resist taking it home...
It will make a fun vehicle in the summer months ( well, most likely NOT next summer )

Re: rescued vehicle...

Thanks rallydriver.
I removed some of the debris inside to see how bad it really is.
I knew the door sills need to be replaced and the floorpan didn' t look that promising, so now I know for sure this needs
replacement as well
Anyway, I bought myself a DAF 66 " Deluxe " to act as a donorcar yesterday.
It is complete and a runner, so the mechanical side will turn out ok. Paid 150 € for it. The 66YA was for free, so this is not an
expensive project so far.

The car should look like this: http://www.dafya66.nl/Dafya66.htm when finished, though I will give it a nice and shiny
civilian look.

This was the third vehicle that was offered for free to me this year. Heheh.
Before this, I got a solid Citroën GS Pallas ( sold it a week afterwards ) and an ex British army BSA B40 motorcycle that I am
restoring now.

2005 has been a good year

Re: rescued vehicle...

Re: rescued vehicle...

Yes Flash, it is called the " Vario-Matic " automatic transmission. Same sort of stuff you' ll find on some mopeds.
It was pretty advanced though and DAF competed in serious rally events and races. They even won several !

Anyway, here' s a pic I just made minutes ago, showing the badly corroded floorpan. I' ll have to recreate it completely I guess...

Re: rescued vehicle...

erm... Flash .... the brownish areas don' t even need a screwdriver to fall apart... ops:

Anyway, I created a " roller-press " several years ago, so I could recreate all those profiles in floorpans.
It will work out fine.

Re: rescued vehicle...

Oh well that is bad then

That Coupe 66 is quite good looking actually. I wonder if there's prints somewhere or good ref pics. It would be nice to model it too

They did reverse races, even, because they could go reverse as hard as they could go forward
Damn, we Dutch people are sick

Re: rescued vehicle...

Hey guys, I had a closer look at the donor-car today.

I must say I am a bit ashamed to use this car as a donor vehicle...
It is... well errr... PERFECT ! Only the left front wing has a bad " nose " and there' s a small hole in the rear left one.
The floorpan is as good as new, as are the doorsills and the interior! Ohoh ...

But then, the floorpan and inner sills seem identical to the one in the 66YA ( even the boot-floor is almost identical ) ,
so it could be a very, very easy job to switch. Heheh!

Mechanicals are in good condition too, so maybe this thing could be on the road much sooner than I expected.

Well indeed, Nighteye, and they demolished more of these DAF' s than I ever will ...
