Canon 5D Mk.II - 21MP! Canon's revenge!

Canon is exacting revenge on Nikon after the D700 - with the new 5D MK.II, a 35mm sensor based DSLR:

Canon EOS 5D Mark II Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

This is unspeakably awesome - and awesome prices too compared to the expensive 1DS MK.III, also 21.1MP.

If I hadn't invested so heavily in Nikon gear, I'd be tempted to switch back to Canon again.

There is also a new Sony DSLR-A900, 35mm sensor on it too:

Sony Alpha DSLR-A900 Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

This one is 24.6MP - the highest resolution offered in class, possibly until the rumoured Nikon D3x arrives. The FPS is quite reasonable given the large images involved.

I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a integral battery grip, that's a bit unusual. I'd have to try one to decide if I like it or not. I like the pentaprism at the top - and the omission of a built in flash, that's good.

On looking at the review, the menu system looks pretty good - similar to the Nikon menu system in some respects, if maybe a little bit more cluttered. It'd also be good if it had a full size LCD panel on the top, rather than a mini version - those are very useful for configuring settings in a hurry, especially when it might be difficult to see the main display in strong light.

The first camera that I used at work was an Apple Quicktake 100
with a resolution of 640x480 pixels...back in 1994...(we used it to make our layouts).

Where it wiil be in the future?....

There is a Phase One 60mp coming out soon - and another one at 56MP (both with larger format sensors - like traditional 645 format). Hasselblad has a H3DII 50mp camera on its way.

However, you'd have to say that the big medium formats and large formats are really aiming at a tiny market, and it'd be nasty to come out on the losing end of that fight - especially with the investment required to build those sorts of cameras.

I've worked in a Adv photo studio (STUDIO H) and they used to work with some digital cameras back.
They were very expensive and slooowww...but they were necessary to some kind of work...
but 60 mp...wow!!!

And I have pricing for the Alpha 900 Sony - it is AUD$4499 body only.

But you get the impression that this is only the start for Sony, and with their deep pockets, I'd expect a lot more from them in the coming years.
