A 3D Car comes real - thx 2 sintering [CP one]

Hi guys, sorry for my english (I'm german)

Some time ago, I've made a car (without blueprints!) in Cinema 4D. I love it. So my first thought was: What can I do with it?

So I made some phonecalls and checked some connections. And I got it today!

That's my 3D modell:

And thats my real modell:

I've also made a small video. It's huge, 32cm long.

This modell won't be painted. I didn't have to pay for it, because the company was impressed. There's a big logo of them at the bottom

But normally it costs 300$ (200$ for the raw material + worktime)

Painting will costs more than the whole modell, because it has to be sanded off (very difficult and it needs time) and than it's able to be painted (Airbrushed).

what exactly is it made out of anyway?

because it looks brittle.. but its sitting on those thin wheels

it almost looks like some type of styrofoam

Thats cool. I always wanted to do this myself. I am also using C4D. To which fileformat did you have to convert the model to be printed? Did you set your Cinema units to cm or mm? Or how do you make sure that the car is in correct scale?

By the way, you have taken part at the Test Drive Unlimited Contest with this car, didn't you?

@XCNuse: It's more stably than it looks like. Also it weighs not much (ca. 50g), but it's hard. And there's nothing inside except of air. It's a powder which is layer-lasered (SLS):

Have a look at wikipedia
Selective laser sintering - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

@kosso_olli: The whole modell has to be one part without holes. I have to put the different parts together. You have to modell the splits, edges (or what do you call it?) - it took 15 to 20 houres. You have to convert it as "STL" (No HyperNurbs and PhongTags anymore, just polygons (tris) ), its easy, you can try it
I've sended the datas to the company, they checked it and make the right size. It doesn't matter how you scale it.

The wheels+brakes are individually (because of the SLS), you can put them into the wheel housings.

And yes, in the end I was on the second place. The first one was a Canadian, so he did not win, an I'm German. Well, so what

Thanks for the information. Congratulations for your first place.

No, I wasn't first The canadian guy win it. But the reglement said that only Americans and Australians are allowed to win. So the third place won the 2500$ with a "motobike"
