ROFL.. really bad idea to paint those wipers red.. atleast you saw your error... Anyhow I got another idea for you which I know looks great. Paint the emblem on the front red. I saw that done on another guys Lancer on another site. It looked really nice and really made the car look better.

Yeah red wipers made it too ricy for my taste.
The process to paint parts? Well first I used 3m sand paper and took off all the clear coat. Than I put it on some cardboard not to get the concrete dirty and painted it. Gave it a few coats untill I was pleased. Applied serveral coats of clear coat for the reflective look I want and thats it! For the rims it is better to put some viniger on it that way the metal takes in the paint and it wont come off later down the road. |

but what kind of paint did you use? It seems like the paint would be very badly abused in places like on the brake calipers. Did you use, or have any recommendations on any clearcoats, just to complete the whole process?
See, one of my very very distant future projects would likely be restoring cars, and there's a lot of cars which have those matte black trims painted on around the doors and windows, and that usually doesn't hold up to well... heh - My brother also tried repainting them on his wife's ex-car, the '92 cutlass ciera, and he said it didn't turn out anywhere near what he'd hoped it would, which is what got me wondering all this ![]()

How To Paint Front Grill
Here is a simple tutorial I have done for a forum I go too to show users how to remove their front grill to paint it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Well first we start of by taking off the top cover. (This image is from projectlancer and it was done by Resolution) ![]() Once you take that top off you will see some screws inside. You only need to unscrew 5 of them. Two on the sides and one in the center. I know these pictures kinda suck so just use common sense and take a look at whats holding the grill. ![]() ![]() ![]() Now once you have those out you will need to break off 4 pins. here is a picture of one of them just to show you how it looks like. You will notice the other 3 very easily. ![]() Now once you done that you can pull your grill out. ![]() I do not have a picture of the back, but there will be 5 screws you have to unscrew, you should easily see which once I am talking about. Now once you done that this is what you should have. ![]() What I did now was I washed and dried it off so there are not dirty spots. After that I rubbed it down with some rubbing alcohol. After this step what I did was I sprayed several layers of primer on it until I had a result I was happy with. ![]() Once the primer is nice and dry you can begin applying the color of your choice. I chose black. ![]() Once that is done you can finish it off by putting clear coat on top like I did or you can just leave it as is. ![]() Last edited by Poltavskiy : 06-24-2008 at 12:14 AM. |
