    Doorlines, hood etc (Sub-Zeuz style)

Had to try sub-zeuz way of creating doorlines (he does not separate the parts  ). And i can say it rocks.

Any ways. Not sure if the pictures come in order so just read and then look at the pics.

Im using a hood as example

    1. Select the edges that will be the line were we are going to extrude.

    2. Type in 0.1 in the field next to the chamferbutton and hit enter (a click will do too).

    3. Select that small polyline that appeared after we chamfered. Then in the Extrude field type in -0.1 (hit enter). -0.1 is just to match the 0.1 we did in the previous step (you know sharp line etc). Do not deselect anything yet

    4. Now type in -0.30 in the extrude field and hit enter. This is just so we can get a deeper "hole".

And thats it. Of course you will probably need some tweaking later

Feel free to C&C and to come with improvements.

Just have to say that when you chamfer you do not use allways 0.1 value, if the prints are bigger (hi res) distance 0.1 is smaller and your edges won't be wide enough.......same thing for extruding, but it is a nice example....... you have to experiment a little

    Thanx sfyranoll

True, true. To fit your needs, you will have to experiment with these values.

I do the exact same thing, but then i delete the polys that you extrude downwards. This way there is no connection between the 2 sides objects, then i simply select all the polys (using the element poly selection) on the detached object, and actually detach it. The seam looks identical and i can now hide stuff to save my PC from certain overheating death

    Doorlines, hood etc (Sub-Zeuz style)

Hi to everyone! I'm new in this forum, and also to 3d car modeling...
    Some questions:

    a) doorlines must be created after applying meshsmooth?
    b) When I extrude inwards the edges of the door, the shadow continuity o the side of the car is lost...

    Thanx

    weeper:
    a) No, it should be created on the control mesh (before meshsmoothing)
    b) A solution is to uncheck Smooth Result under the Meshsmooth options and apply a Smooth modifier with Auto Smooth checked. Adjust the Threshold as necessary.
