    Environment

Here is the environment for that last pic - as a JPG. I have it also in an HDRI.

You can see that in one side it is cloudy but i the other bright sun. Lovely mixed light you get in Scotland.

I can also see that the shadow exetnds a little bit more from the car. but I wanted to light the top of my car to make the silver paint "POP". I might make the shadow a little less dark.

After looking at your pano view, based on shadow measurement between you and tripod. I made myself an amputation that you really are short guy huh? Just kidding

Anyway, few question to ask you about creating panaorama...

    Do you use pano head?
What kind of lens do you use? and How many shots with that lens to get entire 360?
How long It take you to get entire shots?
Do you use Raw image? Do u set up esv exposures or do you do it in PS?

Reason of asking... I just bought myself Sigma 8mm fisheye lens few weeks ago and haven't start creating own panorama since I have no panoheads, don't know what's best techniques to use it. So I was hoping I could get few tips from you if you don't mind.

BTW, the last one looks real nice, I like this scene myself.

Just a very early test using iray.

Still not convinced about iray yet. It is getting better, but still not enough materials and quite fussy to setup.

I posted this in another thread, but don't think it was noticed.

The Focus RS was used, along with a version of my MK1 Escort, for the Burton Power catalogue cover.

They still do Robert, they make quite a few re-manufactured engine parts like new alloy 711M blocks.

Just found this screen grab of the nitrous viewport display direct from 3ds Max 2013. Not a render. I was just experiementing.

Updated the firmware in my Promote remote for my Camera ... and had to test. Not the most exciting, but grabbed this HDRI this afternoon. And tested with the Focus RS.

Great model u have , it's a pity the real life car isn't that good to drive. Tried one, and its understeer is really unbearable, this car is so far from the Megane RS Renault Sport, the reference for AWD sport cars.

Strange, not what I found when I had one for testing. Have you actually driven one ?

With the LSD up front under normal driving understeer is virtually non-existant, and lift-off oversteer available to use the tail. Around a roundabout you can really have more fun than you would ever expect from a FWD car.

With sharp throttle response and roll-free taught damping it is a bloody hoot. Barreling into a roundabout and under a constant around will see great mechanical grip followed by very gentle wash-out under steer, but back off of the throttle and it instantly takes on an oversteer stance - or accelerate and it will tighten its line as the LSD loads up. Given a few hours in this and drifting on the throttle with the tail hanging out is very much possible

If you've never experienced an LSD FWD car you may find it a bit odd as the LSD locks up under acceleration, if you back off the LSD relaxes. This can cause a strange sensation if you don't drive smoothly. Pick your line and keep it nailed and you will have great fun - and no understeer.

Oh, and the Megane RS Renault Sport is not AWD. What version did you drive ?

    @ Dave

    Hi

Well, for ''awd'' i meant ''front wheels drive'', the opposite of an M5 for example. Sorry for the misunderstunding.
Yes, i've driven this Focus RS 5-6 times being it of a friend of mine. The LSD does what it can with 300 hp to manage all in the front, so the whole drive isn't precise at all and the front wheels, especially during a strong acceleration, go where they want...
Try do do a heavy acceleration without to touch the steering wheel. The car will go all to the right, because the torque affects too much teh front wheels although the LSD.

The changing from understeer to oversteer when u break or release the throattle is too fast.
Yes, there's a fantastic grip once the car is stabilized on the corner, and the 2.5 engine has a brutal boost. But it's not enough to challenge with a Megane RS in my opinion. Although it has 50 hp less and is slower in acceleration, it's faster in every tracks , just because u can reach the chord point in each corner with an incredible speed and precision, no understeer because its sporty LSD works much better and , if u want, a smooth understeed can be provoched to insert the front of the car in the strict corners. Pivot point is lower and the suspensions are more refined in their response. The whole drive xperience is more fluid, not ON OFF like the Focus .The Steering wheel is more sensible without to be too much direct. I tell it because i've driven this car at Misano, Mugello and Imola during some track days, now that my health is definetly stabilized.
About RWD, i've had a BMW 335i coupe' (tuned) as u can see here the off topic discussions (and Mitsu Evolution VII and IX, M3 E46, Elise Mk I, Sierra Cosworth rear wheel drive, Escort Cosworth, Delta Integrale Evoluzione, etc.). Actually i have a BMW 330 XD Touring (245 hp officials...285 IRL...lol)
I don't like that much front rear wheels sport car, but if i had to buy one, the Megane will be my choice for the reasons i've told u.
With an unlimited budget, no doubts for me, Nissan GT-R 35 even if i could buy a Veyron SS or a Pagani Huayra. Why? Drive one, then tell me...especially if u add a Cobb Access Port and u allow the engine to give u all the power without the restringments to homologate it in UE. Best car of the late 30 years for me.
    Sorry for the long OT.

Another test render using iray. And the new multi-layer material, and matte material.

I am beginning to like iray.

    Hi dave
You've done some nice things with this project. It seems pretty solid so far. Though i've noticed something wrong on the model(but i am not 100% sure). I think the A-pillars of the car need a bit of tweeking. They somehow seem to be too rigid, to straight(from all angles). Take a look at some photos from different angles and curve them a bit to give them that "flow". Also, i think they are a bit too thick in some areas. Maybe you can shrink them down a bit where is needed.
As for the render part... i would recomand you to try an reproduce(if you can) that oil-rainbow effect on the headlight glass. Here are some exemples of that oil-rainbow effect that i'm talking about:
Ford Focus RS | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
    http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_FoXyvaPSnV...s-RS500-32.jpg
I know it's not the nices effect in the world, but i think it will add a little bit more realism to the scene.
    Keep up the good work

I'll have a look at the A Pillar. Thanks.

That effect on the lenses is not always apparent, I've taken a few photos myself .... but maybe time to try the new thin film effect in iray : see "Thin Film & Soap Bubbles" here :

Not done any car modelling for months. But I have been experimenting with iray today and used my old friend.

Was finding ways to improve textures and also map on some stripes (no blend material in iray, for now). So quite complicated.

Here is the overall paint setup in iray.

Also been using a new desktop, with a Quadro 5000. Not too bad. This scene was rendered for 10 minutes in iray.
