    Motorcycle: Ducati 1098

    And again.

Although the Buell isn't finished for the final rendering i needed some other bike to get away a little from the fine tuning. Tweaking render settings isn' t exactly what i call fun. I'm more of a modeling guy.

So here comes the beauty. Ducati 1098. I just love the form of this bike. It's a V2 of course.

Give me some critics if you can. I know some parts are not right so far. Modeling from photos right now because the prints in the manual are badly drawn. Lot of distortion in them. If anyone has a nice big and mostly orthogonal front view for me that would a great help. Maybe i need to drive to the ducati dealership and take my trusty canon with me to do some photos myself.

hey man, nice start, great materials, need to work on the red paint though alittle bit, i just have a few things that i saw needed to be corrected, deeper tire tread, the fuel tank needs to have sharper edges along the side and needs to have a bigger dip toward the top of it, and other changes in the back part of the body in front of the side vent needs to be alittle more rounded but other than that looks fantastic! Keep it up!!

its a great start, with a few tweaks what you've made will be perfect
the only thing i noticed is the tank looks too smooth and needs a chamfered edge

@blindacideye can you use a litlle paintover for the spot in the seat part? I don't know which part needs to bee rounded. The tank is far from finished so it's good to post it early. You spotted some problems i didn't see. Thx.

@Mertz Thank you very much. I will try my best. Tank not finished like i said above. At first it looked easy to model this tank. Believe me, it's a real tricky part. Started it twice allready. The one you see is nr. 3 and still not the way i want to see it.

@andybuck i'm was not in the mood for cars for a while but after reading through some posts here in the forums i think after this beauties i need to do a car again. thx for the link. The three photos from the tricolore version are new so some for the collection. The rest is all official press stuff.
If you like to do a bike i got a link for you. Great images to start with in very very high resolution. Bikewalls.com - Motorcycle wallpapers - free! there is a lot of great stuff. All the images i used for the Buell and the Duc came from there.

So back to the modeling. Clay render will be up tomorrow.

@alanguer thank you very much. i'm not quite sure if i do the tricolore in the end. i just don't think ducati needs other colors than red, but i'm the same with ferrari ( no i relly think thats the only car i would not drive in black ).
Your photos are good. I know we got a ducati dealer in Berlin so i need to make some on my own. The shot of the backpart behind the seat helped me allready. Now i know how these little black parts with the mesh sit in there.

more tomorrow. i need some sleep now and the box needs some rendertime.

none of the new parts added so far. just the clay renders you wanted. i spotted some easy mistakes with these views. basically round the tank and the frame. anyway here they are.
    maybe you see even more.

started to get the front faering in place. It's a tricky piece. The Photoref is mostly not usable but i think i managed to get something nice so far. Headlight inserts are next.

    UPDATE

So the first part of the lower fairing is finished. Added the headlights in and made some adjustments on the windshield. The corners were to sharp.
The headlight is giving me some trouble but so far it's ok. I will rework some spots of it later on.
The lower part was easy but the tricky stuff is still to be done.

Any good tutorials an how to make the projector beam headlights look real. How do you set them up. Need to finish this on the Buell XB12R too.

Anyway here is the colorfull stuff.

But i would personally not begin to use materials just yet
First get some clays so the model can be optimized, plus you wont get distracted from modelling

    just my $0.02

    thx for the comments first.

    @DbblGlock I want these renders too .)

@SlimyStrike This is for sure a way to do the modeling. I do not have that kind of discipline when it comes to materials. I model it in the standard material and then like to see what the shader kicks out. Sometimes the clay looks fine but the shaders shows up some strange things in reflections.

here is color and clay so everyone can choose.

    Hi there,

commercial projects kept me from working this freetime project for month.

Ok after a long time not working on this beauty of a bike i'm back on it. Finishing it hopefully in the next few days. The engine is in, just needs some work on the back engine case and the handlebar/cockpit area needs some more details too.

For rendering i switched to vray for c4d finally after this renderer came out for c4d in autumn. Material still need some work and minor bumps in the model are showing up, so the model needs some cleaning.

Give me some input while i finish the model.

Yep, minor bumps. But holy moly! I don't care!!! I love it 8o
I'm a huge bike fan myself, and I've always wanted to model one. But it always looks so complicated..

Sweet, can't wait for the final renders!

    PS: Great choice of bike!

thanks for that comment. I like this bike too. Actually because it's a Vtwin engine. For me it's simple Motorcycle = 2 Wheels = 2 Cylinder engine.
